Thank you for visiting our website. It is a privilege to be serving as President of The Rotary Club of James River (Richmond). Every day comes with the opportunity to practice “Service Above Self”. We are motivated each Wednesday morning with a good breakfast and chance for fellowship and to learn from inspiring speakers from around our community.
I joined Rotary to be an active member of my community, locally and globally. Shortly after joining, my wife became very ill and was hospitalized for several weeks, having no local family, I was left to care for our three small children, deal with issues surrounding my wife's hospitalization, and keep my business up and running! Rotarians from James River stepped in immediately bringing us food and warm thoughts. I barely knew everyone's name, but they made me feel like I had known them for years. My wife came out of the hospital with no lingering effects and I came away with a new appreciation for Rotary in my life. I try to instill that attitude of "Service Above Self" in my children, which is often lacking in modern society.
The Rotary Club of James River exemplifies 'Rotary Serving Humanity', in all of the good work that we do. Some of the projects that our members are currently involved in are:
- F.R.E.E. Foundation - Twice monthly pick-up and delivery of mobility equipment for adults
- We Can See Clearly Now (a joint project with other local Rotary Clubs that provided eye exams and glasses for children in Chesterfield County)
- Adopt-A-Highway Road Clean Up project
- Salvation Army – Bell Ringing
- Housing Families First - Christmas Stockings ; Periodic Bedding Drives
- James River Clean-up Events
- Polio Plus
- Ashwini Hospital in India - Global Grant
Everything our club accomplishes is due to the dedication and compassion of our members and the experience of our leaders. Our fundraisers throughout the year provide us with the funds to support local charities here and abroad. Our Robert E. Preston Endowment fund provides a scholarship for a student at John Tyler Community College.
This year's theme is "Rotary Serving Humanity". If you want the opportunity to come together with other business leaders and make a difference in your community and around the world, or if you are looking for an organization where you can help others, have fun and meet creative people, I invite you to join us for breakfast on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Richmond Alarm Company, The RAC Café, 14121 Justice Rd. Midlothian VA.
